WPHS SCHOLARSHIPS

The Western Photographic Historical Society annually awards scholarships to Arizona college and university students pursuing a photography-related career.

To be eligible students must:

I. Be enrolled full time in a four-year college or university in Arizona.

II. Be at least in their third year of study in the year of the scholarship award.

III. Be working toward a bachelor's degree in photography, photographic studies or studio art with an emphasis on photography.                  

All applicants will be given equal consideration without regard to gender, race, color, creed or ethnic origin. Applicants will be disqualified if they are related to any member of the scholarship selection committee.

Applications must be received by April 16th to be considered for the following academic year. Selections will be made and announced by May 16th . Funds will disbursed to the recipient's college or university scholarship development or financial aid office.

Applicants must submit the following items with their application. Incomplete applications or submissions will not be considered. All items become the property of the WPHS and will not be returned.

A.  Completed WPHS Scholarship Application Form (see www.wphsociety.org)

B. A transcript of grades for all related academic work (may be unofficial). 

C. A letter from the applicant to the Committee. This letter to contain the following information.
        1. Applicant's statement of how photography has effected his or her life.
        2. Applicant's future plans.
3. Applicant's photography related activities (clubs, school groups, internships, freelance work, employment, etc).
4. Applicant's photography related honors or awards (include date and name of organization giving award).
5. Applicant's current means of financing education.

D. Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with applicant's work, especially instructors or employers. These letters should be in separate sealed envelopes with the author's signature across the seal.

E. Five unmounted images made by the applicant (black and white or color) no smaller than 5X7 or larger than 8X10 inches. Images should be on photo-quality paper. Images need not to have been developed or printed by the applicant. The applicant must have made the exposure and done any retouching or any image manipulation. Digital prints are acceptable.
